Body Art Therapy- Using My Henna Art for Healing Breast Cancer Warriors

Henna is a beautiful art form in many ways. Its been used for hundreds of years in many cultures for ceremonial purposes and celebrations ,primarily weddings. Henna Artist Jennifer Montgomery of CrazyFaces FacePainting and Body Art serving the Philadelphia PA area and Key West, FL, recently shared this amazing art of henna with ladies on the breast cancer journey whom are going through chemotherapy. It was Jennifer’s idea to share her art , especially during the holiday season to bring some smiles and spread joy to these special ladies. Jennifer had been thinking about a fulfilling way to offer her art as a gift to those who would appreciate it. She gets many requests for in kind donations from charity organizations but really loves to work with those that are meaningful to her. Jennifer saw henna crowns online and remembered an experience she had doing henna on a woman in Key West who had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments. When she came to Jennifer, she hadn’t taken her hat off since she had lost her hair, having the henna done was her first courageous step in doing so. Jennifer felt so honored to be applying the henna that she felt overcome with emotion but kept herself together to get the art beautifully finished. It was truly an amazing experience and thats how the idea to offer this to groups of ladies was born.

After reaching out to some contacts and Facebook friends, Jennifer was equipped with enough information to begin reaching out to see who would like to help make this happen. The quickest and most receptive response was from Rebekah Ulmer of Team CMDD in Downingtown PA. With her help and support, the event came together in less than 2 weeks!!! Jennifer also had the amazing artistic talent of Photographer Shannon Adelson of Adelson Media, Inc. Jennifer met Shannon at the Wilmington Flower Market in Wilmington Delaware several years ago when he captured her face painting designs. Jennifer felt this would be the perfect opportunity to work together.. and it was!

Everyone came together in a cozy location in Downingtown PA with 3 lovely ladies ready for henna! It was such a beautiful experience. Each woman had a unique story about her journey and experience with breast cancer. Thats one of the most rewarding parts of the job…. connecting with others. You never know what someone else is going through, we all have trials and tribulations in this life. I appreciate these one of kind opportunities to come together and share through art, stories and acceptance… from the bottom of my heart. Jennifer feels truly blessed with many opportunities to work with and reach people and realizes what gifts we are born with is what we should be pursuing. Live your best life:)

Yesterday was so super amazing!! I was going to wait and write a big blog about it but I’m still so excited that I had to share right away! So I had had this idea to do henna crowns for women in the chemotherapy process as a way to share my gift and help women feel beautiful, as we should:) So , with the power of intention and help from my awesome supportive circle of friends…. this became a reality in less than 2 weeks!!! A very generous soul, Rebekah , from Team CMMD REALLY helped me get this whole thing underway. She connected me to these amazing ladies and even offered her home for us to meet and create awesome body art on a dreary Sunday. My photographer friend and fellow creative Shannon Adelson joined in the process to capture images of the art as it was created and smiles were emerging. It was a beautiful experience for me and I hope the same for everyone else as well. It was nice to share what I have to offer with women that have gone through the trials and tribulations of cancer but still manage to smile. As I’ve said previously, I love what I do with my art, but mostly, I love connecting with people. This art gift I have has connected me to amazing souls and formed friendships with the best people ever! I’m so grateful for everything. I learn so much from people and families I interact with, its so special to hear firsthand about life experiences from people of all different backgrounds, ethnicities, geographic areas, etc. We can easily get stuck in our own worlds and forget to empathize with others and learn about their experience, this job allows me to connect with others. I just really love this, thank you so much to everyone who has helped me along the way- it truly is awesome. Here’s what i’m hoping to manifest this December 2016 in the Philadelphia area! Also in January 2017 …I’m looking for some help friends … I’d like to volunteer my time and my henna art to ladies going through cancer treatment/chemotherapy . My hope is to do henna crowns as a pick me up during the holiday season . I did this in Key West for a very special woman that hadn’t taken her hat off since her treatments but felt comfy enough with me to do so…. It was an amazing experience for both of us … So much so that a friend of hers saw me doing henna at an event a week later in Key West and stopped to tell me how her friend was so happy 🙂 So anyone with contact people or resources I can reach out to would be appreciated. Henna for Healing

I am so fortunate to have a job I love. There are moments when that is reflected back to me in a very powerful way. As I’ve said many times before , I really appreciate where my art has taken me over the years. I have opportunities to connect with people that are so meaningful. I am very spiritual and have been on a a journey of awakening over the last few years. I realize I am a lightworker and my art helps me with this. My most recent private henna client and I connected immediately when we met this past weekend. She contacted me for henna to be done on her hands. I had never met her before but knew right away we were going to connect. I think its amazing that my art creates this for me. My client wanted the henna as a gift to herself as she said she is also very spiritual. Turns out we had some things in common as she shared her story of her life and marriage which I was also able to relate to. I shared with her my experience with a very emotional,and devastating end to a 17yr long relationship/marriage- this gave her comfort and reassurance. I am so grateful that she felt comfortable enough to share her story with me and that I was also able to provide words and advice of support and comfort. I truly feel that we are all connected and as we share with each other – we grow and evolve:) I offer henna sessions for groups and indivuals as well as those recovering from life changing medical circumstances including mastectomy and chemotherapy/radiation . The first time I did a henna crown on a recovering cancer patient in the Florida Keys , I had to keep myself together emotionally to get through it. I was so honored that this woman chose me to apply henna to her and it was the fist time she went without her hat or wig since her treatments- that was very special to me. So thank you to all that support me and this amazing gift of body art- I appreciate all of you! Mushroom Festival Love!!!

So another year at The Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square was a success ! I’m so grateful to everyone that stopped by for face painting and henna body art. I love this annual event . I’ve been participating in it for over a decade now and it’s amazing that I still look forward to it each September. Obviously , as an art based entrepreneur , I love what I do . Aside from that, I am very spiritual . Earning income doing what I love has come with passion and persistence…but also fear. Since haven’t been conditioned in our society to earn by doing what we love , it can be an uncertain road at time. With that said doing this and doing well is a SERIOUS source of gratitude for me . I’ve learned a lot over the past 2 years through my art and business. I went through a divorce which was very abrupt and lining me up to be totally financially independent. Sounds awesome but is quite anxiety provoking as well. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my own strength and earning power as a woman, thats been rather eye opening and exciting. I am so grateful for each opportunity that comes my way and everyone that supports my art and business . I am truly doing what I love and have stayed on course with it for over a decade. I had the honor of providing henna services for a bride and her family in Philadelphia PA yesterday:) It was a beautiful , festive experience to be the henna artist for the upcoming Philadelphia PA bridal event. I spent about 4 hours with the family applying henna to the Indian family with designs of all sorts. Of course, the bride received the most intricate and extensive henna work on her hands and feet. After the henna was applied the ladies applied lemon juice to wet the henna again to allow the henna to create darker stains as it was setting on the skin.
